Dead Ringers, Prime Video

This six-part remake of David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller sees Rachel Weisz in the dual role of obstetricians Elliot and Beverly Mantle (originally played by Jeremy Irons), identical twins who have a disturbingly close bond. Together they plan to modernise women’s healthcare by opening up a revolutionary birthing centre, but their dream and relationship are both threatened when Beverly falls for a patient (Britne Oldford). How will Elliot react to being muscled out of her sister’s affections? Severance’s Michael Chernus stars as brilliant scientist Tom, while Jennifer Ehle plays heiress Rebecca, a potential investor in the birthing centre.

Pilgrimage, 9 pm, BBC Two/iPlayer (box set)

It’s the final leg of the journey for the celebrity pilgrims as they make their way towards their end destination of Fátima. The group is in a reflective mood as they each discuss some of the discoveries they’ve made about themselves along the 364km route. Rita realises she is a ‘good enough’ Jew and Nabil is emotional when he finds a mosque for Friday prayers. Meanwhile, Catholic Bobby announces he’s been asked to carry the statue of the Virgin Mary at the candlelit vigil the following day. As night falls, more than 70,000 people from around the world gather but one of the seven pilgrims has decided to make an early exit, which leaves the rest of the group shocked.

The Big Interiors Battle, 8 pm, Channel 4

There are lots of design-based competitions on TV at the moment, but this one has a bit of a twist – one of the eight competing amateur designers could actually win their own £250,000 apartment, designed entirely by them! Each hopeful gets their own flat to renovate in a swanky former factory in Sheffield, and week-by-week they’re all tasked with doing up a different room. But after each challenge, one of the contestants gets locked out of their apartment and has to leave the competition. In this opening episode, it’s bedrooms, and with the contestants’ styles ranging from minimalist to bold prints, the judging is tough. AJ Odudu hosts.

Redemption, 9 pm, ITV1/ITVX (box set)

As the series reaches its conclusion, Colette (Paula Malcomson) seems on the verge of getting justice for her daughter, Stacey, whose death was ruled a suicide. Colette has the info she needs on a major drugs operation and how Stacey’s involvement led to her being killed, but her persistence has meant another family member is now in grave danger. This is becoming quite the year for hardcore grandmas in crime dramas (see also Catherine ‘Robocop’ Cawood in Happy Valley), and while this series probably could have been wrapped up in fewer episodes, it’s great to have Paula Malcomson in a lead role.

ObsessionNetflix

From the Regency romp Bridgerton to the saucy shenanigans of Sex Education, Netflix is developing a reputation for spicy television, and this four-part erotic thriller might be it's most lustful yet. The Stranger’s Richard Armitage and Happy Valley’s Charlie Murphy star in the intoxicating tale of top surgeon William Farrow, who becomes infatuated with his son’s fiancée, Anna (this adaptation of Josephine Hart’s novel Damage delves further into Anna’s story than the 1992 film starring Jeremy Irons and Juliette Binoche).

Filled with lies, deceit and plenty of bedroom antics, it’s a compelling look at the destructive power of forbidden desire.

Ghosted, Apple TV Plus

Dating can be tricky enough – but it’s even worse when you finally meet ‘The One’ and they ignore your messages. And it seems even Captain America himself isn’t immune to rejection, as Chris Evans discovers when his unlucky-in-love farm boy Cole falls head over heels for Bond girl Ana de Armas’ enigmatic Sadie, only to have her ghost him. As Cole tracks Sadie down in London, he’s shocked to learn she’s a secret CIA agent, and their reunion turns into a disaster-filled adventure to save the world… The on-screen chemistry sizzles between Chris and Ana, and the combination of romcom meets action-adventure is a match made in heaven.
