Who wants cosy, low-stakes TV to ease into 2024 when there is this jaw-dropping reality check on the world being on the verge of a nuclear apocalypse? Journalist Jane Corbin speaks to the scientists, investigators and diplomats who set the Doomsday Clock – which, already minutes away from midnight (read: a global catastrophe), is due to be updated on 23 January. It is not just crime-solving this week as the village is rocked by a serious accident when Will (Tom Brittney) heads out on the motorbike he promised his pregnant wife Bonnie (Charlotte Ritchie) he wouldn’t ride. Postponing their return to the US, Julia and Paul (David Hyde Pierce) head to Paris for a romantic weekend – until old friend Avis (Bebe Neuwirth) turns up, also avoiding real life. Cue an itinerary of comedy gold and a boozy night with Jean-Paul Sartre. HR
