Tracks and Trails, RTE One, 7.30pm
Tracks and Trails is back with a new series and tonight, Bláthnaid Treacy explores four trails in Co Westmeath.
Bláthnaid starts her visit to the tracks and trails of Westmeath by taking a bike ride from outside Mullingar to Athlone along the 42km Old Rail Trail Greenway.
She begins on the Royal Canal Greenway which runs along the Rail Trail for a short time before she joins the Old Rail Trail at Ballinea.
The next day Bláthnaid leaves her bike behind to take a 3km route around the Hill of Uisneach.
Bláthnaid then visits Mullaghmeen Forest in North Co Westmeath where she takes some time out along the trails here, to listen and breathe in the quiet of the nature around her and to meet another local, Niall Breslin.
Niall talks to Bláthnaid about the benefits of nature for our health and wellbeing and the importance for us all to get outside, wherever we live, for fresh air and exercise and to slow down.
For the last trail on Bláthnaid’s trip to Co. Westmeath, she visits Belvedere House and Gardens and Park.
In this new series which returns after a two year break, the presenters are challenged to cover a lot of ground on foot or by bike and in some cases scale some steep yet very rewarding trails on hills and mountains around the country or to follow quiet, meandering peaceful paths getting away from it all.

The thriller starring Morgan Freeman follows a father and son attempt to bring in an assassin to the authorities.
But his dangerous associates have other plans.
It all kicks off when former cop Ray Keene, played by John Cusack, takes his teenage son, Chris, played by Jamie Anderson, on a hiking trip in the woods.
On their journey, they stumble across a hitman, played by Freeman, who has avoided capture by the FBI.
Freeman’s character Frank Carden is a professional assassin who has been hired to kill a reclusive billionaire named Lydell Hammond, Sr.
Carden's plan goes awry when he gets injured in a car accident and ends up in the hospital. When hospital staff see his gun, they call the police.
They are able to peel away his false identity, and federal marshals are called in to pick him up.
But his men stage a rescue attempt and the car is crashed.
Ray is determined to take the assassin back to where he can be brought to justice, but faces trouble when his prisoner's henchmen come to set him free.
