Shetland

9pm, BBC One
One minute you’re moaning to your colleague about a rubbish first date, the next you’re sifting through frozen fish for illegal drugs. It’s all in a day’s work for DI Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen) as the 10th series of this popular murder-solving drama begins. Her next case with DI Tosh McIntosh (Alison O’Donnell) is the gruesome killing of a retired social worker in a remote hamlet – and they learn the community isn’t as tight-knit as it seems. Hollie Richardson

The Hack

9pm, ITV1
“We’ve got Murdoch on the stand.” Or two of them, to be precise. In the final episode, the News International capo Rupert and his son James face the somewhat blunted teeth of the Leveson inquiry (and a custard pie). But not without predictable pushback for Nick Davies. As the Guardian’s former editor tells him, “Stand up, put on some iron underwear – and fight.” Ali Catterall

Grand Designs

9pm, Channel 4
A tight budget (£175k) meets a tall order (transform a 1960s bungalow into a five-bed, two-storey architectural vision) in this nerve-jangling episode of the self-build show. When Kevin visited Stuart and Rosie from Wirral back in 2016, they had grumbling neighbours and breeze block walls. How will they be getting on nearly a decade later? Ellen E Jones

BBC New Comedy Awards 2025

9pm, BBC Three
The search for the next great standup reaches the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, where host Amy Gledhill introduces another five hopefuls vying to earn a place in the final. Head judge Fatiha El-Ghorri is flanked by Phil Dunning and Dan Tiernan, who won the competition in 2022. Tiernan’s advice for nervous competitors? “Drink through it.” Graeme Virtue

The Hunting Party

9pm, U&Alibi
More from the po-faced but deeply silly drama about profilers tracking down a bunch of murderers who have escaped from a secret supermax prison. In this episode, Bex (Melissa Roxburgh) and her team are in Montana on the trail of a wolf-loving serial killer keen to add to her already impressive body count. GV

Eye Investigations: Death in Dubai

11.30pm, BBC Two
In 2022, the internet went wild with something called #DubaiPortaPotty – a term for “money-hungry influencers willingly getting defecated on for cash”. But the mysterious death of a 23-year-old Ugandan woman in the UAE raised questions and exposed a much darker side to the trend. HR

Film choice

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Matt Shakman, 2025), Disney+
The third feature-length iteration of the super-fab foursome is the latest attempt to rescue the Marvel Cinematic Universe from irrelevance – and it may just succeed. So welcome Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn, a most unusual family unit in an alternative 1960s Earth of a retro design seemingly inspired by the Jetsons. Their foe is the planet-eating Galactus (Ralph Ineson) who develops an interest in the unborn child of Reed Richards and Sue Storm. Fun and funny, it bodes well for future efforts. Simon Wardell

Bob Trevino Likes It (Tracie Laymon, 2024), 10.50pm, Film4
The life story of Lily Trevino (Barbie Ferreira) is so sad it makes her therapist cry. She has no friends apart from Daphne (Lauren “Lolo” Spencer), for whom she is a live-in carer. Her drug addict mother left years ago and she has a stupendously selfish dad, Bob (French Stewart). Then she meets another Bob Trevino (John Leguizamo) online and an unlikely friendship blossoms. A sweet, touching comedy-drama from Tracie Laymon about the value of simple human connection. SW
