This Town

9pm, BBC One

An ambitious coming-of-age drama about two brothers and their cousin from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, set against the backdrop of Birmingham’s social unrest in 1981. Dante is a “really weird kid” who writes poetry rather than joining the riots; Bardon’s dad is trying to get him to join the IRA; and Gregory is too busy listening to birdsong to carry out his duties in the army. Their paths collide when their grandma dies, and they want to escape the troubles around them by trying to make music together. Hollie Richardson

Gareth Malone’s Easter Passion: The Concert

6pm, BBC Two

After a month’s intense tuition, Gareth’s eight untrained singers are ready to unleash their Bach (a version of the St John Passion) at Cardiff’s Hoddinott Hall, with a little help from the BBC Singers, the National Orchestra of Wales and top soloists including soprano Julia Doyle and baritone Roderick Williams as Jesus. Ali Catterall

Mammals

7pm, BBC One

Another series of glorious natural history narrated by David Attenborough, this time focusing on the warm-blooded creatures of the Earth – and it is a feast for the eyes and brain. This opening episode concentrates on animal nightlife. Look out for a thrilling treetop tussle between a leopard and a troop of baboons, captured in night vision. Phil Harrison

Paul O’Grady’s Great Elephant Adventure

8pm, ITV1

Tissues at the ready: O’Grady’s love for elephants runs dogs a very close second, and for his last ever programme he spent time in Thailand’s largest elephant sanctuary. As always, it’s a joy to watch him feed and talk to animals that had previously been neglected. And because he simply cannot resist, he finds some disabled canines on site to befriend. HR

Passenger

9pm, ITV1

Strange things continue to happen to the residents of a small northern England town in Andrew Buchan’s mystery drama, tinged with folk horror and bad things partially obscured by trees. After the false start of a missing girl who inexplicably returned home, bored cop Riya (Wunmi Mosaku) is given something to get her teeth into. Jack Seale

Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over USA

9pm, W

“I do think it can feed into the narrative that women are there to serve men,” says Dooley as she heads to South Dakota to meet a man with two wives. Will sleeping in a freezing treehouse and meeting Jeff, Sharis and Vanessa change her mind? Hannah Verdier

Film choice

Emily the Criminal, Netflix

Whatever the quality of the film she’s in, Aubrey Plaza can be relied on to create characters that are edgy and unpredictable, even unlikable. In John Patton Ford’s debut feature, her Emily is a zero-hours food delivery driver whose assault conviction is a block on her artistic ambitions. Then she meets Youcef (Theo Rossi), who runs a credit card fraud operation, and lets herself be drawn into deeper, darker territory. Plaza is utterly convincing as a desperate woman becoming angrier and tougher as the choices she makes become ever more extreme. Simon Wardell
