Christine Baranski is at the top of her game as sharp-tongued, old money matriarch Agnes van Rhijn in this juicy, well-heeled period drama from Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey, Gosford Park). In 19th-century New York City, when people started making their wealth in new ways – “the Gilded Age” – Agnes and her sister Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon) welcome their niece, Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson – Meryl Streep’s daughter), from rural Pennsylvania.
