TV schedule for Premier League restart outlined in new report

The Premier League have outlined the TV schedule to broadcast games for the rest of the season, according to reports.

Recent suggestions in the national media had indicated there could be a "festival of football" with each team perhaps playing every few days.

But the Daily Mail now claims the league is planning to "restart the season with a bumper weekend of televised matches".

And that could be the template that is followed for the remainder of the campaign.

The Mail says TV companies have been told to prepare for a possible restart in mid-to-late June.

One match may be shown on a Friday evening, followed by four further games on Saturday, another four on Sunday - and one on Monday night.

The article states that Sky will show five games per weekend - including the Friday clash.

BT Sport will show another one with the remaining five likely to be made free-to-air, either on "Youtube or via the red button".

It is thought that kick off times will be staggered across the entire weekend.

The Mail's story comes as reports elsewhere suggest June 19th could now be a possible restart date for the top flight.

That update follows meetings yesterday between the Premier League and club staff - including managers and players - where concerns over safety amid the coronavirus outbreak were highlighted.

A June 19th restart - coupled with a round of matches every weekend - would potentially see the 2019/20 term finish in the middle of August.

Earlier this week the Government revealed a lockdown roadmap which could see professional sport return behind closed doors from June 1st, should it be deemed safe to do so.
