TV's The Prisoner Mini Moke to be set free… for about £60k

THE Mini Moke made famous in cult 60s TV series The Prisoner is coming up for sale next month with a price tag of up to £60,000.

The 1965 machine is one of four that were customised by London coachbuilders Wood and Pickett in 1966 for the spy/sci-fi drama set in Portmeirion, Wales.

Only two survive and this particular Moke is firmly identified as having been used on screen – with show creator and star Patrick McGoohan seen at the wheel in numerous episodes.

The fleet was disbanded after filming concluded in 1967 and, a bit like The Prisoner itself, the history of this Moke is a mystery until 2011.

That’s when it was discovered in a barn in Holland and shipped to the UK, prior to being bought in a very sorry state in 2015 by the current seller.

With specialist help over the following two years, the Moke was fully restored, keeping as much of the original car as possible – including the famous Penny Farthing logo on the bonnet.

It also comes with the uprated – and now fully refurbished – 1.0-litre Cooper engine fitted by Wood and Pickett in place of the 850cc original.

This piece of iconic TV automotive history is up for grabs with Silverstone Auctions at the NEC Classic Motor Show Sale, in Birmingham, running from November 12 to 14.

Just remember, the Mini is not a number… it will be a free Moke in your hands.
