TV's Hardeep Singh Kohli 'sorry' after claims he was 'inappropriate' with Edinburgh Fringe performer

Scots TV star Hardeep Singh Kohli has issued a public apology after he was dropped by BBC bosses for allegedly acting inappropriately towards women.

Last year 16 women claimed he had been inappropriate towards them, including comedian Lulu Popplewell who accused the Celebrity Masterchef contestant of 'abusing his power' at last year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

29-year-old Lulu, who starred as Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson’s daughter in rom-com Love Actually accused Kohl of 'propositioning her' and asking her for 'a spoon' at his Glasgow flat in return for star contacts and career advice.

Following the accusations from the women, BBC Scotland said they would no longer be working with the Big Brother star and Edinburgh Fringe promoter Guilded Baloon has also given Kohli a 'lifetime ban'.

Last night Hardeep Singh Kohli addressed the accusations and offered an apology on his Twitter page.

He said: "I have been reluctant to make a statement regarding the allegations against me.

“This is primarily because I fundamentally believe every person should have the platform and space to say what they feel needs to be said.

"Any offer of context, explanation or alternative narrative would diminish their words and that is something I did not want to do.

“It is now clear to me that my actions and words made women feel intimidated, undermined and undervalued.

“For this, I apologise unreservedly and can only hope to live a life of greater understanding.”
