TV ratings: Red Riding concludes with 1.7m

The concluding part of Channel 4's drama trilogy Red Riding averaged 1.7 million viewers between 9pm and 11.05pm last night, Thursday 19 March.

The two-hour drama, which this week starred David Morrissey and Warren Clarke, peaked at 2.2 million viewers and a 10% share in the first quarter-hour but finished with1.6 million in the final quarter-hour. It added an additional 58,000 viewers on catch-up service Channel 4 +1 an hour later.

This was on a par with last week's instalment, which delivered 1.6 million and a 7% share of the audience for Channel 4 from 9pm to 10.55pm. But it was down on episode one which averaged 2.5 million viewers.

On BBC2, the Andrew Marr-fronted Darwin's Dangerous Idea concluded with 1.5 million viewers and a 7% share in the 9pm hour. This was followed by the Graham Norton Show in the half-hour from 10pm which averaged 1.2 million viewers, a 6% share.

Channel Five did well last night with live coverage of Manchester City's Uefa Cup tie with Danish side Aalborg, which averaged 2.1 million viewers between 7pm and 10pm, a share of 10% for the overall coverage. This peaked at 2.8 million and a 17% share between 10.30 and 10.45pm as the tie was finally decided with the English side squeezing through on penalties.

In the 9pm hour on ITV1, Cops with Cameras attracted 3.6 million and a 16% share. This was pipped at the same time by BBC1's The Hottest Place on Earth in which Kate Humble visited the Danakil Desert in Ehthiopia. It was watched by 3.7 million, a 17% share.
