TV presenter's anger at parking ticket after taking child to hospital

A Welsh TV presenter has hit out after receiving a parking ticket when taking her daughter to hospital. Nicky John, presenter of S4C's Sgorio, said there was a "pathetic" lack of parent and child spaces at Ysbyty Gwynedd after finding herself hit with a fine.

The presenter said she had to walk across an icy car park with two bags while carrying her young daughter. She had been taking her to an oncology appointment on January 17. In a series of tweets, Nicky claimed there were six parent and child parking spaces, North Wales Live reports.

"I think it is an absolute disgrace that whoever is responsible for Ysbyty Gwynedd's car parks thinks that half a dozen parking spaces for 'parent and child' is suitable! Had to walk along an icy road from the far car park with 2 bags and Emi this morning - 1/2," Nicky wrote in the tweets (which have here been translated from Welsh).

"And if a child who is receiving treatment because she is an oncology patient does not count as a candidate for one of the disabled parking places, then bloody hell, I don't know who is!!"

In a tweet she wrote: "What the Holy F*** is THIS???!! A ticket for having to rush a child into the hospital and not having to park in the far area because you have 6 paltry pathetic sites for children and parents outside where the children's ward is??"

Nicky said she would be looking for a solution to the issue, saying it had been "one kick too many after a long day in hospital".

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, which operates the hospital, will be approached for comment and their response added here.
