TV presenter Iolo Williams' anger as his 90-year-old mother waits six hours on floor for ambulance

TV nature presenter Iolo Williams has hit out at NHS cuts after his 90-year-old mother was left waiting on the floor for an ambulance for more than six hours.

A relative of "very frail" Megan Williams had to call 999 three times after she fell out of bed at her home in Felinheli, Gwynedd, at about 7am on Wednesday, August 11.

She was still waiting for paramedics to arrive come early afternoon - despite her living only four miles from Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.

“I think it's disgraceful that my 90-year-old mother has fallen and been forced to lie on the floor for so long," said Iolo.

“I'm not in any way pointing the finger at the ambulance staff themselves - they did a fantastic job when they did get there at just after 1pm.

"Similarly, the doctors and nurses are all great - but the situation with the NHS has been getting worse for years."

The star said that, as a result of Covid restrictions, he was still waiting to visit his mum in hospital (South Wales Echo)

Iolo had previously explained on social media that his sister Ffion had been staying with their mother - who he described as "very frail" - and heard her cries for help.

In the since deleted tweet, he added: "This is what happens when successive governments cut funding to essential services.

"There's a clear lack of investment. We see the rich people running the country, and they know if you need to go private, people can."

The star also explained that, as a result of Covid restrictions, he and other family members were still waiting to visit Megan in hospital but that her condition had since improved.
