TV on DVD: 'Twilight Zone'

THE TWILIGHT ZONE: COMPLETE SERIES (Blu-ray)

MUST-BUY: While this fall's CBS DVD re-release set was episodes-only, this new Blu-ray of Rod Serling's classic '60s mind-trip does include the bonus bounty of Image Entertainment's 2012 box (now out of print and selling around $200). Just the visual upgrade to detail-laden high-def would be enough, impressively remastered from 35mm original camera negatives (except some of season 2 shot on videotape).

EXTRAS: But here's everything else for fans to gorge on _ Serling's original pilot pitch, Serling college lectures dissecting episodes, commentaries galore by cast and crew (Leonard Nimoy, Mickey Rooney, Neil Gaiman, Richard Donner, etc.), 2000s radio versions, "SNL" sendup, lots more!

LIST PRICE: $127 Blu-ray for 156 episodes on 24 discs, CBS.

BRITAIN'S BLOODY CROWN: Fast-moving docudrama with young historian Dan Jones uses re-creations and location filming to bring alive the Wars of the Roses era (currently dramatized in PBS' "The Hollow Crown"). Even better is Adams/Athena's preceding history of historical turning points, "Britain's Bloodiest Dynasty: The Plantagenets," which has info-packed guide booklet; $40 each on DVD, Athena.
