An Post update on whether TV Licence inspectors can call to your home during lockdown

With COVID continuing to radically alter the day-to-day life of every person in Ireland, the current Level 5 restrictions have resulted in the majority of people working from home.

However, with social distancing guidelines in place and the government putting an emphasis on minimal social interactions, some jobs have been made harder to do than others.

At present, the Level 5 restrictions state that there can be: "No visitors to home or garden, with the exception of visits for essential purposes (for example family reasons such as providing care to children, elderly or vulnerable people, or as part of a support bubble)."

Aside from this, no organised indoor gatherings are allowed to take place.

The aforementioned measures clearly present a very difficult challenge to one group of workers, the TV Licence inspectors because they rely on obtaining access to a person's home and are regularly interacting with people on a daily basis.

In a statement to the Irish Mirror, An Post provided an update on the functionality of this work during the time of lockdown.

"All our Inspectors operate under the guidance and restrictions that have applied in the various levels of lockdown and the advice issued by the HSE.

"This includes the option of wearing a face covering, maintaining a 2m distance from an interviewee and standard advice on hand hygiene, coughing etiquette etc.

"Our staff have worked appropriately through the various phases of the Covid lockdown given the restrictions on travel and general interactions," they said.

For those that are looking to renew their licence but don't want to do so in person at the post office, this process can also be done online. You need your TV reference number and PIN from your most recent reminder notice to logon and make the payment.

A TV licence can also be purchased on the phone.
