Sportswomen Of The Year Awards
8pm, Sky Sports 1

This ceremony celebrates an exemplary year in women’s sport. For proof, one need only look at the nominations for team of the year, which include the Ashes-winning England cricket team, World Cup-winning England rugby union team, the European championship 4x100m gold medal relay team and rowing pair Helen Glover and Heather Stanning, who took gold in the world championships. Up for sportswoman of the year are 10,000m runner Jo Pavey and swimmer Fran Hansall. Gwilym Mumford

Great Continental Railway Journeys
9pm, BBC2

For the latest of his journeys guided by George Bradshaw’s 1913 Continental Guide, Michael Portillo is in Poland, which before the first world war was a chunk of territory subjugated by neighbouring great powers. He begins in Warsaw, described in shockingly casual antisemitic terms in the book, and ends in Krakow. In between, Portillo tries dancing, stoking a steam train that still runs commuter services and welding. He excels at none of these things. Jonathan Wright

Liberty Of London
9pm, Channel 4

It’s New York fashion week and managing director Ed Burstell whisks the buying team over to his home city for a gawp at the American catwalks. Meanwhile, back in London, events officer Louis makes preparations for a big Vogue event while the new head of women’s wear tries to flog a hairy vest for two grand. Nothing is at stake, obviously, but pressing your nose against the glass of this grand old emporium is inexplicably fun. It’s pretty, certainly, but also reassuringly old-fashioned. Julia Raeside

Confessions Of A Copper
10pm, Channel 4

Before modern policing became strewn with paperwork and internal politics, the copper of the 60s and 70s truly ruled the roost. In sometimes hilariously frank – and often pretty disturbing – testimony from old school policemen and women, a world of matter-of-fact planting of evidence, widespread sexual harassment (disguised as initiation), rampant sexism, bunk-ups in panda cars, and the mild electrocutions and coercion of suspects is unveiled in unflinching fashion. Riveting viewing. Ben Arnold

The Newsroom
10pm, Sky Atlantic

Like all Aaron Sorkin dramas, The Newsroom is cerebrally high-functioning but suffers from the fact that all his characters talk in a relentlessly dry, impossibly clever patter. This third and final season continues with the station under threat as the two young heirs to the company, with entrepreneurial ambitions, find themselves at loggerheads with the more benevolent Reese. Could this mark the end of News Night, the show that seeks “not common ground but higher ground”? David Stubbs

Forbidden Love: I Married A Cross-Dresser
10pm, Sky Living

Sky Living continues to shake off its once-frivolous, Katie Price-on-a-pony image with this documentary strand on unconventional romance. This one features cross-dressers and their partners. Unlike Andy and NJ, who fessed up early in their relationships, Chris kept his cross-dressing from Helene for 10 years. And Gary initially worried about the effect that dressing as Catie might have on his relationship, but is now ready to introduce her to his pals, as well as some strangers watching at home, of course. Hannah J Davies

Live At The Apollo
10.35pm, BBC1

Now in its 10th year, this standup show filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo retains its primetime popularity. As such, it’s largely devoid of the experimental or edgy, unless you count the appearance of the perennially un-PC Frankie Boyle, who is set to host episode three. It is, however, very consistent: this series promises lots of seasoned performers, kicking off with Sarah Millican, Joe Lycett and Russell Kane, with the likes of Jason Manford and Aisling Bea to follow along in the forthcoming weeks. Dallas
12midnight, Channel 5

While ol’ Cliff Barnes is still locked up in a cell plotting his revenge, the usual glossy, sexy Dallas storylines move on. Pamela holds the key to his release, but will she let him rot for a crime he didn’t commit? On the outside, the Ewings are battling to save the company while, in lusty scenes bravely attempting to grab a share of those late-night viewers, someone mysterious is filming Elena in bed with Trevino. Elsewhere, Emma is arranging dangerous drug deals and Luis is out to do a spot of kidnapping. Hannah Verdier
