TV channel subscriptions at centre of Mid Ulster police probe

Police say they have discovered an alleged fraud involving the “sale of illegal subscriptions for TV channels”.

The move comes after an investigation in the Mid Ulster area.

The PSNI has not released many details as yet, however they say two people are due in court next month charged with alleged offences linked to the probe.

It is understood the charges follow an operation by Mid Ulster CID detectives along with local uniform officers in Bellaghy which uncovered what is being described as “a substantial online fraud involving the sale of illegal subscriptions for TV channels and broadcasters”.

On Friday, a police spokesman said: “A 34 year old man and a 30 year old woman have been charged with a range of offences including making or supplying articles for use in fraud, possessing articles infringing copyright, unauthorised use of a trademark and concealing criminal property.

“Both are expected to appear at Magherafelt Magistrates court on 15 July 2020. As is usual procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.”
