TV book show filmed in Lanarkshire venue airs this weekend

A popular TV book show will air this weekend, and the first episode was filmed in a famous Lanarkshire venue.

'The Big Scottish Book Club', hosted by writer Damian Barr – who grew up in Newarthill - will return this Sunday for a brand new series.

The first of eight episodes comes from Motherwell Concert Hall with guests Louise Welsh who discusses The Second Cut , the much anticipated follow up to her bestselling 2002 thriller The Cutting Room.

Sarah Perry explores what it means to be an Essex girl and James Robertson takes us to the rugged landscapes of the Scottish Highlands in News of the Dead .

This week’s theme delves into the importance of location and a Cambuslang-based book group tells us what they think of James' book.

Damian Barr said: “Scottish authors and publishers are on top of the world right now and I'm delighted to be celebrating both favourite voices and new names.”

'The Big Scottish Book Club' can be viewed on the BBC Scotland channel at 10pm on Sunday.
