KOTA: The absconding 28-year old private tutor accused in the murder of the 15-year-old student was arrested from Gurugram on Monday night. He was produced before a POCSO court on Tuesday that sent him to police remand for six days.
Kota city SP Kesar Singh Shekhawat said, "The girl resisted her tutor's sexual advances. Fearing that she might disclose it to her family, he strangled her to death and fled."
On the basis of initial interrogation, police have incorporated sections of POCSO Act with section of murder under Section 302 against the tutor after he confessed to sexual assault. "We are focusing on collecting relevant evidence. Chargesheet will be filed after a merit-based investigation for speedy trial," Shekhawat said.
The SP city added that the accused fled from the crime spot in a planned manner. He boarded a bus to Haridwar believing that he could evade arrest if he fled outside Rajasthan.
On Monday night, he visited his sister's place in Gurugram where he was arrested.
Through the eight-day run, the accused moved in over a dozen cities outside the state while spending most of his night travelling by bus and resting during day at bus stands, he added.
Shekhawat said that they had constituted at least 30 police teams.
The well-coordinated efforts of all the teams resulted in the arrest of the tutor.
The daylight murder had left the Kota city shocked with the locals observing bandh and taking out candle marches demanding speedy action against the accused.
