Tutima M2 Coastline Chronograph: Reliable, Comfortable, Practical – And Grounded In History

Right now what we all need is a bit of reliability, comfort, practicality, and beauty. Which is probably why Tutima chose this moment in time to release the latest member of its M2 family: the Coastline Chronograph.

The M2 is the obvious descendant of Tutima’s 1980s Reference 798 military chronograph, essentially a military spec-conformed stopwatch for the wrist, which featured a few groundbreaking traits for the time like large, comfortable chronograph pushers that can be easily activated while wearing gloves and the use of titanium for the case and bracelet. Tutima was one of the early proponents of using titanium in watchmaking, doing so because of the metal’s propensity for hardness while remaining much lighter than stainless steel. It is a material that is robust, attractive, lightweight, and more corrosion resistant than most alloys. It is also somewhat harder to scratch that steel. In other words, a perfect material for a sports watch. See more about Tutima’s 93-year history here, including the iconic military watches it became famous for.

The M2 Coastline Chronograph’s sporty and functional styling is available in two color schemes – black dial with red accents and blue dial with white accents – and accompanied by a new two-part strap comprising rubber and Cordura inlay for a truly spectacular and sporty fit securely attached to the wrist by a folding titanium clasp. Alternatively, it can also be purchased with a titanium bracelet, leather strap, or rubber/leather strap if you so prefer. The 43 mm titanium case is just the right size for rugged adventures – as demonstrated in this hands-on review (with spectacular original photography) of another M2 family member, the Pioneer.

The automatic movement of the M2 Coastline Chronograph needs only the motion of your wrist to keep it wound, reliably able to time anything by just pushing the wide buttons. With 200 meters’ worth of water- and pressure- resistance, this watch is ready for action and for you to take it anywhere – a perfect continuation of the values of its hometown, Glashütte, which celebrates 175 years of watchmaking in 2020.
