Turtle theft from aquarium sparks police warning

A turtle stolen from an aquarium is likely to die without specialist care, police have warned.

Clyde was taken from the Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, on Tuesday.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the theft of the reptile, which is 20cm long.

In an appeal on their Facebook page, Cheshire Police said: “At 5.30pm on 30th August we were called to the Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port to a reported theft of a turtle. We are keeping an open mind on the circumstances at this time.

“Were you at the Blue Planet Aquarium today? Did you see anything suspicious? Did you see anyone enter any of the enclosures or perhaps in sodden clothing?

“Staff at the aquarium advise that without specialist care the turtle is likely to die.

“If you have any information please call us on 101 and quote incident number 719 of 30th August. Anonymous calls can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
