Turnovers costly again as Vikings fall to Chargers, drop to 0-3

What a football game we saw on Sunday afternoon. The Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Chargers had just about every crazy thing happen to them, and it turned into a classic with the Vikings dropping to 0-3 in a 28-24 loss.

The game started off slow with a three-and-out for the Chargers, but the Vikings established the run early with Alexander Mattison. Unfortunately, a T.J. Hockenson fumble stopped the Vikings from getting a score.

The Chargers turned it into a touchdown on the ensuing drive, and it didn’t stop there. Justin Herbert was incredible throughout the game, including making an insane throw on third-and-17 across his body and the field. He finished 40-of-47 for 405 yards and three touchdowns.

Kirk Cousins’ stats looked really good, but his performance was spotty. He seemed hesitant throughout the game, double-clutching the ball, and didn’t place the ball well throughout. Cousins finished 32-of-50 with 367 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen threw WR Mike Williams a touchdown pass from 49 yards out to put the Chargers up 21-10. Allen finished with a remarkable 18 catches for 215 yards.

A turning point in the game came when the Chargers went for it on fourth-and-1 from their own 24-yard line with 1:54 left. The Vikings stuffed their run up the middle and got the ball back with 1:47 left in the game.

After Hockenson caught a 9-yard pass on fourth-and-5, the Vikings drained nearly 20 seconds off the clock before running a play from the Chargers 6-yard line. The ensuing pass got tipped up in the air twice and intercepted by Kenneth Murray, dropping the Vikings to 0-3.

Up next for the Vikings is the Carolina Panthers next Sunday at noon CT. The Panthers will likely be without No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young, who sat out this week with an ankle injury.
