Turnout up in Renfrewshire South as voters sit tight for lunchtime result

More voters turned up to cast their ballot in Renfrewshire South this year than in the last Scottish election.

A turnout of 65.7 per cent was confirmed at Braehead Arena this morning where the count for the constituency vote has now begun.

This is an increase of more than five per cent compared to 2016.

There were 34,821 votes cast in the constituency vote, while 34, 910 were cast in the area on the West Scotland regional list vote.

Tom Arthur of the SNP is seeking to retain the Renfrewshire South seat for a second term up against Andy Doig of Scotia Future, Derek Stillie of the Scottish Conservatives, Paul O'Kane of Scottish Labour, and Christine Cosh of the Scottish Liberal Democrats.

A result is expected at approximately 1pm today.
