Australia's squash women's singles campaign in Birmingham is over after Jess Turnbull and Donna Lobban were knocked out in the round of 16.

Turnbull suffered a 3-1 loss to England's Lucy Turmel while Lobban lost 3-0 to Wales' Emily Whitlock.

The green-and-gold-haired Turnbull was thrashed 11-1 in the opening game and lost the second 13-11.

She fought back to claim the third game 11-9 but couldn't maintain the rage as Turmell prevailed 11-4 in the fourth and final game.

Lobban had beaten Australian flagbearer Rachael Grinham in the round of 32.

She fought out the first game but lost it 13-11 before Whitlock claimed the second and third games 11-7 and 11-4.

It means Australia now have no men's or women's singles players at the pointy end of the respective competitions.
