WITH a push of a red button, former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull symbolically 'turned on the power' at the nation's first industrial prototyping hub in Warners Bay on Friday.
The Melt is a collaboration between the founders of Hunter-founded, national business accelerator Slingshot, Lake Macquarie City Council's economic development company Dantia and national engineering force Ampcontrol.
Specialising in developing and making hardware for both startups and corporates, The Melt is forecast to inject $50 million into the economy over two years and unleash innovation in startups and corporate across the country.

The presence of Mr Turnbull was timely considering the funding the hub received came from the national innovation and science agenda which he set up early in his prime ministership.
Housing state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and a design studio with computer-aided engineering tools, The Melt's aims to transform ideas with a hardware component into products for national and global markets.

The Melt founder Trent Bagnall said the Warners Bay facility would be a stepping stone to others nationally and, potentially, in global locations.
