Turkish-themed coffee bar set to open under historic Mansfield viaduct

A new coffee bar is set to open in a historic Mansfield building with plans to sell both British and Turkish cuisine.

The Horizon, on Church Street, is set to open in "for the summer" having converted an old shop front underneath the historic town centre viaduct.

The site, a Grade-II listed 19th Century building, has been vacant for around five years having most recently being home to the Divine Furnishings store until around 2016.

However, developers and a company have now moved in and transformed it into the "bespoke" coffee restaurant.

Once open, the outlet plans to sell Turkish cuisine mixed with English food, as well as coffee, cakes and alcohol.

And architects which helped design the site have revealed what Mansfield punters can expect once the site opens to customers later this year.

Adam Jones is managing director of Peter Philip Developments, which helped design the new-look site.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: "The clients are Turkish and approached me about six months ago wanting some commercial work.

"They wanted to start a cafe restaurant which is also a bar, although it only serves limited alcohol.

"The main principle is to sell Turkish cuisine mixed with English food, and they'll be doing various different foods.

"I haven't seen the menu yet but they've got some really nice fit inside, with design work from Turkey and all the interior design, fitting and kitchen is bespoke.

"There's a big copper grill in the kitchen which says The Horizon on it and they've done really well.

"It's going to be open as soon as possible, whenever the restrictions allow it. They've still got some things to sign off but they will open as soon as they can.

"It will be open for the summer."

Nottinghamshire Live has attempted to contact the owners for a comment.
