Turkish counter-terrorism forces arrested five people on charges of belonging to the ISIS group during a security operation in Ankara on Friday.

Security sources said that counter terrorism teams raided several houses and seized a number of documents. No details on the content of the documents were disclosed.

The raid was the latest in a series of operations against ISIS in the country and that have been ongoing for three years.

Last week, security forces arrested seven ISIS suspects in Istanbul.

Security sources said they launched an operation to arrest suspects involved in forging identification documents for fugitives hoping to cross into conflict zones, such as Syria and Iraq.

According to the sources, the list of suspects included persons suspected of recruiting new members for the terrorist organization and assisting jailed relatives of ISIS members.

ISIS activity in Turkey increased between 2015 and early 2017. A bomb and armed attack on Istanbul's main airport in June 2016 killed 47 people and wounded over 200, while an explosion at a Kurdish wedding in Gaziantep two months later killed 57.

Since then, Turkey has launched a wide scale security operation which saw the arrest of thousands of mostly foreign ISIS elements.

Separately, six suspects were handed multiple life sentences by a court in Ankara over a 2016 bomb attack in the Turkish capital targeting soldiers, which left 29 dead.
