Now led by Senol Gunes, back in the dugout after a spell as national team coach 15 years ago, Turkey got this campaign off to a winning start on Friday night with Burak Yilmaz and Hakan Calhanoglu on target in a 2-0 win over Albania.
Moldova meanwhile hosted world champions France in their opening the same night, with Kylian Mbappe and Antonine Griezmann among the goal scorers as they fell to a 4-1 defeat that leaves them bottom of Group H.
