Turkey, Greece and Portugal among 50 summer destinations you can fly to from East Midlands Airport

Passenger airlines serving East Midlands Airport (EMA) are offering flights to over 50 destinations this summer.

Whether it is a domestic break in Northern Ireland, a Mediterranean beach holiday or a visit to a European city, all are easily reachable with a short flight from East Midlands Airport.

The transport hub giant is hoping that it will see an increase in passenger demand over the coming weeks despite the ever-changing rules over testing, isolation and amber and red lists .

The airport is served by popular low-cost carriers Ryanair, JET2, TUI as well as easyJet who recently launched flights to Belfast, and Aurigny and Blue Islands who whisk people off to the Channel Islands.

Passengers have been reassured that measures are in place to help keep them safe.

Everyone who travels overseas needs to test negative before boarding a plane, while face mask wearing in the terminals continues to be strongly advised, and deep cleaning and hand sanitisers remain in place.

The airport has also recently expanded its on-site testing capacity and offers a range of arrival and departure tests, including packages for amber and green list countries, plus Test to Release, which unlocks passengers from quarantine after a full five days.

Clare James, East Midlands Airport’s managing director, said: “While I appreciate that there is still anxiety about travelling abroad in the current climate, the recent reminder of what Mediterranean heat feels like may encourage holidaymakers to book for an overseas trip this summer if they haven’t done so already.

"While our passenger numbers remain below what they would have been pre-pandemic, this is a good time to travel if you want to avoid the usual crowds of the British exodus to sunnier climes.”

It is worth noting however that the current list of destinations is subject to change at short notice.

A Government review of the traffic light system which considers which countries are on the red, amber and green lists is expected on or around August 4.

Countries can be added and removed from the lists at any point, so passengers are encouraged to check the latest government guidance before booking flights and holidays.
