Turf Lodge pub fire tackled by three fire appliances and aerial machine

Firefighters were tackling a blaze at a West Belfast pub today.

The incident, at the Trinty Lodge bar in the Turf Lodge area, has been ongoing since around 11am.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were unable to give many details earlier as the fire was still being dealt with.

However they confirmed three appliances, two from Springfield and one from Cadogan, were at the scene.

An aerial appliance was at the scene.

Local Councillor Micheal Donnelly expressed his sadness at the fire, saying it has “engulfed”.

The Sinn Fein rep added: “My thoughts are with the owners and staff of the Trinity Lodge bar and restaurant which caught fire earlier this morning.

“Thankfully nobody was hurt and all staff escaped safe and sound. The Trinity Lodge bar and restaurant is an iconic building in the Turf Lodge area and has been there for decades. It’s very popular amongst locals and others across Belfast. People are just devastated.”

He said the fire “has caused extensive damage to the building”.
