A Victorian turf club is charged with workplace health and safety breaches over the 2019 death of apprentice jockey Mikaela Claridge.

The Cranbourne Turf Club faces six charges of failing to ensure employees were not exposed to risk and that the workplace was safe.

Ken Keys-owned training business Saloon Park faces two charges relating to workplace safety over the 22-year-old's death.

The businesses were represented by lawyers for a filing hearing in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Claridge was riding a section of Cranbourne Racecourse known as the sand trails when she was thrown from a horse in trackwork on August 30, 2019.

The turf club and Saloon Park are due back in court for a committal mention on May 10.
