Turbulence-hit Ryanair flight forced into emergency landing as passengers need treatment

A plane full of British passengers to a popular holiday spot was diverted due to a mid-air emergency.

The Ryanair flight was headed from Birmingham to Tenerife on Sunday afternoon when it was forced to do a U-turn when the plane went through a turbulence bubble.

The turbulence hit the plane during cabin service, leaving multiple passengers needing medical treatment.

The pilot regained control of the aircraft before declaring a general emergency and turning the flight around.

The plane landed back at Birmingham Airport just an hour and 30 minutes after it departed.

The aircraft was parked and met with emergency services on a remote stand at the airport, according to AirLive.

The extent of any injuries to passengers is not yet known.

According to a spokesperson from Ryanair, the aircraft landed safely upon its return.

She told the Sun: “FR1121 from Birmingham to Tenerife on 28th December returned to Birmingham Airport shortly after take-off due to air turbulence.

“The aircraft landed normally before passengers disembarked and returned to the terminal, where a small number of passengers were provided with medical assistance.

“This flight continued to Tenerife at 21:06 local.”

This comes as many parts of Spain continue to endure extreme weather.

Many regions of Malaga, including Marbella, were put on red alert on Saturday night, as the area was hit by heavy rainfall.

Parts of Valencia continued to be under alert on Sunday, after also being hit by torrential rain and hail.

This comes after the tragic discovery of the body of a missing man near Costa Del Sol. Police are continuing to search for a second.

Investigators confirmed the news just after 5pm on Sunday, just hours after the van the pair were travelling in was located.

The two men, aged 54 and 53, were reported missing from the town of Alhaurin el Grande.

Officers believe that the men were attempting to cross the Fahala River on foot after being unable to travel across by car due to heavy flooding.

The search to find the other missing man is ongoing, and locals are urged to stay inside whilst the storms rage on.
