Tuppence Middleton’s favourite TV

Unmissable show?

Bloodline. I really like a family drama. It doesn’t feel like there are that many made at the moment. I hadn’t seen anything set on the Florida Keys like that before. It’s such an idyllic place with such a dark undertone. It’s a really great mix.

Earliest TV memory?

Watching Fraggle Rock. I used to find it a little bit terrifying at times, but there always used to be a message. There was an episode where a Fraggle called Red had stolen something and they were trying to make an example of her and her hand started growing bright red: she was literally caught red-handed. I was terrified of stealing anything after that.

Bring back…

A Japanese anime series called Death Note. It was about this schoolboy who finds this notebook which has dropped from the heavens, but the characters in the heavens are more like demons. They write people’s names in the notebook when they’re about to die. And this guy on Earth, in Japan, gets hold of the book, and tries to use it to make the world a better place by getting rid of people who do bad things, but he starts to get this messiah complex. You don’t really know who the good guys and the bad guys are. It’s an amazing story. They [Japanese animators] seem have no limits to their imagination.

Guilty pleasure?

I really like watching reruns of The Crystal Maze. It’s something that I find weirdly comforting. If I ever have even a small amount of banknotes I love to “Crystal Maze” them, by throwing them in the air and catching them. But it’s never as fun as it looks on TV.

Mastermind specialist subject?

I’m Alan Partridge. I take the DVD with me everywhere. If I’m lonely, or if I’m tired and can’t watch something new, that’s my default. I think I know all the quotes. I’d get chucked out of the studio, though: “That’s not an acceptable Mastermind subject!”

Sense8 is available to watch in full on Netflix
