Tupac family member has ‘no problem’ with Rod Stewart AI tribute video

  • Rod Stewart has faced criticism for an AI-generated video shown at his concert in Alpharetta, Georgia, depicting an AI likeness of Ozzy Osbourne taking selfies with various deceased celebrities.
  • The video, which included AI versions of Prince, Tina Turner, Tupac Shakur, and Amy Winehouse, was widely condemned on social media as tasteless and disrespectful.
  • Despite public outrage, relatives of Tupac Shakur and XXXTentacion expressed no objection, saying they were pleased their loved ones were included in the tribute.
  • Tupac’s stepbrother Mopreme Shakur said “I have no problem with him memorialising the greats”, while XXXTentacion’s mother said she was glad her son had made enough of an impact to be included.
  • The blogger who initially publicised the video expressed regret for mocking Stewart but also criticised AI art as “insidious” and “soulless”, noting Prince's historical opposition to virtual reality.
