Tunnock's sweet treats punted at TRIPLE the price online amid lockdown shortage

Tunnock's sweet treats are being sold at almost triple the retail price online.

Punters are paying through the roof to have caramel logs, wafers and teacakes delivered during lockdown.

Online sellers are flogging teacakes at £6 for 12 cakes, while at Poundland, a six pack usually costs just one pound.

It comes as full production was ground to a halt amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Limited stock has been flying off the shelves in the usual retailers.

One ebay seller has flogged 71 packs of eight Caramel Wafer biscuits for £4.99 per pack - that's £3.19 more than Sainsbury's charge for the same product, according to The Scottish Sun.

Tunnock's chiefs closed their factory doors and stopped site tours for fans earlier this year.

Their 600-strong staff were sent home as a precautionary measure while Covid-19 continues to claim the lives of Scots.

The Daily Record has contacted Tunnock's for comment.
