Tunisian Opposition Party Calls for Reviewing Agreements with Turkey, Qatar

President of the Free Destourian Party Abir Moussi submitting her candidacy for the last presidential elections in Tunis, Tunisia, on Aug. 2, 2019 (AP)

Tunisia’s opposition Free Destourian Party called on Saturday for withdrawing draft projects with Turkey and Qatar from parliament.

The party urged against approving the agreements, demanding that all previous deals signed with Ankara and Doha be reviewed.

It explained that all of these past agreements “undermine national sovereignty and harm Tunisia’s economy.”

The parliament had postponed discussions on the draft projects back in April.

Separately, the party held on Saturday an anti-terrorism march that kicked off in front the of the justice ministry and ended at the government palace.

Party president, Abir Moussi accused forces that have been in power since 2011 of lacking real political will to combat terrorism.

She called on the authorities to take tangible measures to fight this phenomenon.
