Tunisia’s Foreign Minister said on Friday his country will coordinate with other Arab states in efforts to contain any fall-out from US President Donald Trump’s decision this week to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
Khemaies Jhinaoui was speaking as Tunisia assumed the rotating presidency of the League of Arab States ahead of Sunday’s summit, which is expected to focus on Trump’s decisions on the Golan and an earlier move by him to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed it in a move not recognized internationally.
Speaker after Jhinaoui, Arab League chief Ahmed Aboul Gheit rejected the US move on Golan, saying the area was Syrian territory.
“It is wrong to legitimize occupation,” he said.
