Tunisia sack manager Lamouchi after just one World Cup game – and name his replacement

  • Tunisia have sacked coach Sabri Lamouchi after the national team suffered a 5-1 thrashing by Sweden in their first World Cup match.
  • French coach Hervé Renard has been appointed as Lamouchi's replacement, as announced by the Tunisian football federation.
  • Lamouchi had only taken charge of the team in January, and the significant defeat has made their qualification for the last 32 extremely difficult.
  • Renard brings extensive experience, having previously won the Africa Cup of Nations twice and coached Morocco and Saudi Arabia at World Cups.
  • This mid-tournament coaching change is not unprecedented for Tunisia, which also replaced its coach during the 1998 World Cup.
