Tunisia’s Security Forces Arrest Man who Stabbed French Tourist

Tunisia’s anti-terrorism judiciary, which pursues terror cases, is now in charge of the stabbing of a French national in Bizerte city, the Interior Ministry announced Tuesday.

Bizerte police, with the participation of the counter-terrorism unit, arrested Tuesday the perpetrator in Zarzouna region of Bizerte province, about 28 hours after the attack.

The attacker, 28, is a Zarzouna native with a criminal record.

He assaulted a soldier and then the French citizen, who died before reaching hospital.

The Ministry confirmed that it arrested the criminal at his family's residence while he was preparing to flee.

Tunisian security sources said the security units are in the process of completing investigations with him before his transfer to the counter-terrorism unit in Tunis where he will be questioned thoroughly.

Witnesses in the area told investigators that the attacker could be affiliated with terrorist organizations.

Tunisian terrorism experts believe the criminal was inspired by terrorist groups to carry out “lone wolf” attacks.

ISIS has previously claimed responsibility for a series of similar terrorist attacks, such as the attack of Mona Qibla, as well as the recent stabbings carried out by Tunisian terrorist Malek Zouadi in Bizerte end of last month.
