The Health Ministry revealed on Monday that around 4.5 million people are now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, contributing to the increase of the immunization rate in the country.

The number of fully vaccinated people stands at 4,516,636 whereby 3.6 million people received two doses, and around one million has received one shot either for taking the single-dose vaccine or for having been infected by the virus.

The Ministry said a total of 9,253,797 COVID-19 vaccine jabs have been administered till October 29, while the number of people registered on Evax.tn reached 6,704,944 on October 30.

Tunisia started the vaccination campaign on March 13, with healthcare workers constituting the priority group.

The country faced a severe third wave of infections in July, resulting in the near collapse of the health system.

Although health officials have accelerated the national campaign to control the outbreak of the pandemic, the vaccination rate has reached only 30 percent.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that 3,880 people have taken the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, currently administered for those aged 75 and over.

On October 30, the Ministry registered one COVID-19 fatality and 166 infections from 3,610 tests.

As such the caseload stands at 712,747 and the death toll at 25,241.

The number of recoveries rose by 257, hitting 686,023, the Ministry added.

Meanwhile, the ministries of Health and of Education plan to organize between November 8 and 20 mobile jab drives in secondary schools in a bid to inoculate students aged 15 and over who have not received the vaccine’s first shot.

Both ministries called on students to register in their respective schools and submit a filled and signed parental authorization form.

Also, the Ministry of Communication Technologies announced the launch of vaccine pass service on the national vaccination platform EVAX, with an aim to attest that the owner is fully vaccinated, allowing its holder to access places and spaces set in the presidential decree.
