Tunisia’s Tourism Minister Habib Ammar announced resuming flights to tourist destinations starting April 19.

Ammar said that resuming trips will take place according to a protocol and procedures agreed upon in coordination with the Health Ministry.

He considered this season significant for the tourism sector, given that all tourist destinations begin to offer their travel packages.

Tunisia is a well-known destination in the Mediterranean, he stressed.

Ammar had earlier intensified his efforts to make the current tourism season a success since Tunisia relies on it to improve its economy.

He held virtual meetings with four tour operators in France to discuss means of adding Tunisia to the tourist destination this season.

He is also scheduled to hold further meetings.

On Sunday, Tunisian authorities stressed the importance of conducting PCR tests for all tourists upon their arrival, noting that those testing positive for COVID-19 will have to remain in quarantine.

Tunisia reopened its land, sea and air borders for the first time on June 27, 2020 after it announced it had brought the first wave of the coronavirus outbreak under control.

However, trips were suspended again as the virus spread more rapidly during the second wave.
