Tunisia Relaxes Curfew as Virus Infections Drop

Tunisia has adjusted the curfew hours to a narrower stretch from midnight to 5 am, instead of 10 pm to 5 am, the presidency said on Wednesday. The decision is effective as of Thursday amid a decline in the number of coronavirus infections.

The country will maintain preventative precautions to stem the spread of the virus.

Fully vaccinated people are allowed to attend family, public and private gatherings in open spaces while abiding by the health guidelines.

Cafes and restaurants will have to remove chairs and stop serving customers on-site as of 10 pm.

All arrivals in Tunisia by land, air, and sea must present a negative PCR test within 72 hours before arrival and receive a mandatory 10-day quarantine from the date of entry into the country.

People who have completed the vaccination process are excluded from mandatory quarantine.

Authorities are urged to strengthen the enforcement and control of the health protocol as well as individual and collective preventive measures in all sectors, public and private spaces, supermarkets, and public transport.

Tunisia recorded 2,952 new coronavirus cases and 30 deaths on Tuesday. This took the tally in the North African country to 629,702, while the death toll from the virus rose to 22,148.

Deaths increased during the past month and exceeded 250 per day. The number of recoveries reached 579,852, according to the Tunisian Health Ministry.
