Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi and Jordan's King Abdullah II stressed Sunday the importance of establishing a new phase of joint Arab action starting at the Arab summit, which is scheduled to be held in Tunisia in March.
King Abdullah and his wife, Queen Rania, had arrived in Tunis on an official visit at the invitation of Essebsi.
Their remarks were made during a meeting, which was attended by delegations from both countries.
Tunisian diplomatic sources said that talks between the two leaders stressed the importance of the success of the upcoming Arab summit, stressing that the issue of Syria's return to the Arab League is one of the major topics.
Tunisia will host the Arab summit at its 30th session at the end of March amidst an Arab debate about Syria's participation.
Sunday’s meeting "highlighted the importance of the success of Tunisia’s summit in establishing a new phase in the process of joint Arab action and finding practical solutions to end the intractable crises faced by the region within a framework of Arab solidarity and unity," said a statement issued by the Tunisian presidency.
The two sides "discussed the ongoing preparations carried out by Tunisia to host the summit and exchanged views and advice on a number of issues to be addressed, most notably the Palestinian cause," it added.
Talks also tackled bilateral economic and commercial cooperation opportunities and the importance of enhancing cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism.
On January 9, King Abdullah stressed during a meeting with Personal Representative of the Tunisian President Minister Al-Azhar al-Qarawi al-Shabi Jordan's keenness on the success of the forthcoming Arab Summit in order to serve the Arab issues and contribute to activating the joint Arab action and finding political solutions to regional crises.
