Tunisia extended curfew for another two weeks in several governorates from 8 pm till 5, including Monastir, Sousse, Sidi Bouzid, and Sabalat Ouled Asker.
Also, the governor of Monastir, Akram Sabri, said those above 75 are asked to self-isolate regardless of their health conditions.
The committee in charge of responding to disasters in Monastir postponed the full quarantine until the end of October to get a clearer view of the outbreak of the pandemic.
Moreover, a curfew has been introduced last week in Manouba, Ariana and Ben Arous. Awaiting the outcomes of the first round, authorities kept the extension of the curfew on hold.
So far, Tunisia is registering more than 1,000 cases daily.
Dr. Habib Ghadeer, member of the Scientific Committee to confront the coronavirus, stressed that the second half of October is critical in terms of curbing the spread of the virus and reducing the risk factors.
Ghadeer stressed that this phase is crucial and would determine whether curfew will be extended or not in certain Tunisian regions.
This depends on the implementation of health protocols and the respect of precautionary measures, he added.
Meanwhile, cafes and restaurants, that were banned by the health authorities from using chairs and tables to host customers, are now permitted to operate with 50 percent capacity, allowing only two individuals to use the same table.
Earlier, cafes and restaurants' owners expressed objection over the decision banning the use of tables and chairs – saying saw it would affect their business and lead them to bankruptcy.
