Tunisian Foreign Minister Khamis Jahnawi, who convened with National Army Commander Field Marshall Khalifa Haftar, considered the Libyan political agreement signed in Skhirat in 2015 the most appropriate framework to proceed with the transitional phase in Libya through holding presidential and legislative elections this December.
Haftar noted, in a confined statement, that he discussed with Jahnawi on Monday several international and local updates. Jahnawi stated that holding the Libyan elections would empower the state of law and focus efforts on swift reconstruction of the country in tandem with the recommendation issued by the international seminar on Libya in May in Paris, under the patronage of the UN.
In his third visit to Bneghazi, Tunisian Foreign Minister urged all Libyan parties to get involved in the efforts of the reconstruction and the protection of the national unity and sovereignty – he underlined importance of reaching an internal Libyan solution under the umbrella of the UN.
The Tunisian FM stressed that any political settlement of the Libyan crisis should come from the Libyans and under the supervision of the UN – he also affirmed Tunisia’s support to efforts of Head of the UN Mission to Libya Ghassan Salame to implement the road-map.
These statements came one day after Salame warning that some powerful Libyans are ready to do whatever it takes to hinder the elections, and he saw that its unwise to hold the elections unless proper conditions are available.
Government of National Accord, headed by Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj, said that the Security Council acted in accordance with Sarraj request to form an international technical committee to revise the accounts of Central Bank of Libya in Tripoli and Al Bayda.
Sarraj demanded the formation of this committee, following the National Oil Corporation announcement that it was handed on four ports in the oil crescent region from the Libyan Army.
