Tumbleweed tornado spotted on Washington highway

A “tumbleweedtornado” was caught on video by a Seattle journalist driving down a Washington highway.

Matt M McKnight was on assignment, driving down Highway 240 near Hanford, when he noticed “a few scattered tumbleweeds bouncing along the road,” according to the Tri-City Herald.

Before he knew it his car was surrounded by the “tumbleweed devil” and the visual journalist was forced to pull over.

“Moments later it was a bunch grouped together and I needed to slow down a bit,” Mr McKnight told the Herald.

“Then I looked about a hundred yards down the road and saw a tumbleweed devil forming quickly — so I pulled over to be safe.”

“The most nerve-wracking part was actually driving out of the pile that had surrounded me,” he added.

Mr McKnight, who works for an independent, nonprofit news site called Crosscut, posted a video of the strange occurrence on his Twitter account.

“Hey y’all I’m fortunate enough to travel Washington on assignments for @Crosscut/@KCTS9 when I get to find craziness like this randomly,” he wrote in a tweet alongside the footage.
