TUI special delivery saves Lapland holidays after Covid travel test scare

Thousands of festive travellers marooned in Lapland following changing UK government testing rules were rescued by their own special Christmas delivery.

TUI Airways flight TOM911P left Birmingham on Monday morning specifically to supply pre-departure tests for TUI UK guests in Lapland. This follows the sudden travel advice changes announced by Boris Johnson's Government on Saturday evening.

To help customers, 3,500 tests are being delivered to Santa’s hometown so families can have peace of mind that their magical Christmas trip can continue to be as joyful as they’d hoped.

There are 2,500 TUI guests, mostly families, currently enjoying the festivities in Lapland who flew out before the travel testing rules were changed and are scheduled to return home after December 7.

A further 900 customers who jetted out to Lapland on Monday morning will also be provided with free pre-departure Covid tests.

TUI UK’s commercial and business development director Richard Sofer said: “Families plan all year for their magical trips to Lapland with dreams of meeting Santa, husky sleighing and feeding the reindeer.

"It’s our job to ensure their dreams are a reality and our Christmas elves, as ever, are on hand to help make sure they experience the magical wonders of Lapland."

Guests departing for Lapland on the next TUI flight set to take-off on December on December 8 will be reminded to purchase their tests prior to departure.
