Tui response to foreign holiday gloom insisting trips for people in England will get green light

The UK's largest tour operator Tui has stressed it is still hoping to take holidaymakers abroad this summer despite UK government ministers repeatedly advising against booking trips.

The company issued the bulletin following reports suggesting international travel may not resume before July.

All Tui UK holidays are suspended until May 17, which remains the earliest possible date for a return to non-essential overseas travel.

However, Tui added some destinations may still block holidaymakers from the UK and rules on testing and vaccinations will vary between different countries.

The travel company issued the statement after speculation over the threat to summer travel.

Tui said: "We remain committed to working closely with the Government on the Global Travel Taskforce and look forward to understanding more about when international travel can take place when it reports on the April 12.

"We believe holidays this summer will be possible, taking into account our outstanding vaccination programme and the use of testing where required.

"We recognise that entry requirements will vary from country to country and we will do everything we can to communicate requirements to our customers.

"Currently all TUI holidays have been cancelled before May 17 and all customers with a booking before the end of June are able to move it to another time for free as we recognise the uncertainty around travel at this time."

The company is continuing to extend its free changes policy to the end of June. Those due to travel between May 17 and the end of June can change their booking to a later date fee-free.
