A plane got its wheel stuck in a soft bit of runway in the Caribbean.

Tui flight OR394 was en route from Aruba in the Caribbean via Bonaire, near Curacao, to Amsterdam when the incident happened.

The Boeing 767 aircraft got its wheels stuck in the runway at Bonaire airport, a Dutch island municipality just north of Venezuela, just before take-off for Amsterdam.

The incident happened when the plane was being pushed back.

Passengers onboard were unharmed, according to local media, and the plane has been sent to nearby Curacao for inspection.

Images shared on social media show the plane wheels sunk into the tarmac.

One passenger, Huub Vermeulen, said he had been “stuck on Bonaire for hours” when the “plane pushed back too far and dropped through the concrete”.

He added that the plane tried to pull away but failed.

A Tui spokesperson confirmed the incident to The Independent.

It's not the first time a plane has had issues with its wheels.

In February, a wheel fell off an Air Canada plane shortly after taking off from New York.

The Air Canada Airbus A319 jet, carrying 120 passengers and five crew members, was en route from New York LaGuardia to Toronto Pearson International Airport on 18 February.

There was an issue with one the main tyres on take-off, according to the airline.
