TUI plane from Tenerife forced to make 'emergency landing' at East Midlands Airport

A TUI plane that was bringing holidaymakers back to East Midlands Airport from Tenerife was forced to make an emergency landing last night.

The plane took off from Tenerife at 7.49pm yesterday (April 28) and was due to land at the region's airport at 12.10am.

But the Boeing 737-800 missed the approach to the runway and had to continue the flight.

The plane then became low on fuel and had to make an emergency landing 12 minutes after its scheduled landing time, LeicestershireLive reports.

AIRLIVE, reported the incident on Twitter and said in a tweet: "The Boeing 737-800 missed approach to runway 27, then declared an emergency due to low fuel before landing runway 09."

In a statement a spokesperson from TUI, formerly Thomson Holidays, said: "We would like to apologise to customers travelling on flight TOM7729 from Tenerife South to East Midlands last night (29th April 2019) for any inconvenience caused.

"Due to a technical issue and as a precautionary measure, the aircraft conducted a priority landing into East Midlands Airport.

"The aircraft landed safely and the flight was met by emergency services which is in line with standard procedures."
