TUI performs U-turn over in-flight refreshments axe with service reinstated

The UK's biggest tour operator TUI has announced a U-turn over plans to axe food and drink sales on short-haul flights. Passengers were informed last week that they should bring their own food and drink on some routes because of staff shortages at the firm's catering supplier.

But TUI has now informed travellers on-board catering has been reinstated on short and medium haul services. An updated statement from TUI read: “We can confirm that the issue has now been resolved and the catering offer on board our flights will resume as normal. We know how much our customers value the ability to purchase food and drinks on board and we thank them for their patience and understanding.”

Customers were told that food and drink services would be limited on European routes from 15 airports. The company stated: “Customers may therefore want to bring their own food and soft drinks onboard – no alcohol permitted. Any soft drinks over 100ml will need to be purchased after you have passed through security.”

However, the disruption has since been resolved and and passengers on holiday flights will be able to purchase a normal range of refreshments. Long-haul flights to Aruba, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Orlando and St Lucia were not affected.
